Heather Emert DVM

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
– Jeremiah 29:11

Dr. Heather graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. She has a special interest in complicated internal medicine cases, ultrasound, and feline medicine.

She lives in Woodstock with her husband Kevin, son Asher, and their three dogs: Hank, Amelia, and Biscuit and a cat named Linus.

“I have always wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as I can remember. From the first time we took our family pet to the veterinarian, I knew I wanted to help animals. I enjoy trying to understand what animals are telling me, since they have no voice. Treating complicated cases and learning from cases that do not go as planned helps me improve as a veterinarian every day.”

FAVORITE PART OF MY JOB: Dermatology, pain management, rescue work, and interacting with clients is my favorite part of my job. Growing up as an only child, my animals were a huge part of my family. I always knew I wanted to work with them. Three classmates and I founded the UGA Shelter Medicine Club. I received a grant to study Sea Turtles in Puerto Rico one summer. I practiced in Athens for five years at a small animal clinic after graduation. I worked closely with the local rescue group while in Athens as a foster (fostering over 70 animals) as well as serving as foster coordinator. My husband’s job brought us to Kennesaw. My favorite animals to work on would have to be any dog with long hair! I especially love the tiny breeds and the giant breeds.

Lauren Washburn, DVM

My goal is to assist in changing a pet’s quality of life to help increase the bond that they will experience with their owner. I also like that not every day is the same. Every day has a different case and different symptoms to treat. The wide variety of animals and learning the large animal medicine at KMVS is new to me. I am comfortable around large animals as I owned a senior horse at the end of his life several years ago. I love yellow and chocolate labs, but have a very sentimental spot in my heart for shelties.
