C. Kirk Underwood, DVM

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: Dr. Underwood and his entire family love community, travel, the beach, the lake, Auburn football, and Atlanta Braves Baseball.

IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND PETS: Dr. Underwood was born and raised here in Kennesaw, GA on a local farm. He currently resides in Acworth, GA with his wife, Amanda and two children Ethan and Madison. The family are long time members of North Metro Church in Marietta.

FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB: Dr. Underwood started Kennesaw Mountain Veterinary Services in 1998. The practice has evolved into a multifaceted, multi-doctor Small Animal practice. Our family friendly staff, and current modalities have proven to make differences in pets and peoples’ lives.

Heather Emert DVM
Associate Veterinarian

EDUCATION : University of Georgia

HOBBIES/INTERESTS:  Dr. Emert graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. She has a special interest in complicated internal medicine cases, ultrasound, and feline medicine.

IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND PETS: She lives in Woodstock with her husband Kevin, son Asher, and their three dogs: Hank, Amelia, and Biscuit and a cat named Linus.

FAVORITE PART OF MY JOB: “I have always wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as I can remember. From the first time we took our family pet to the veterinarian, I knew I wanted to help animals. I enjoy trying to understand what animals are telling me, since they have no voice. Treating complicated cases and learning from cases that do not go as planned helps me improve as a veterinarian every day.”

Arvid Edward DVM

Hailing from Cincinnati Ohio, Dr. Arvid Edward is a graduate of Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine with over twenty-one years of experience as a practicing veterinarian.
In 2003, Dr. Arvid Edward was recognized in Los Angeles California by the “Parent Involvement in Education Foundation”, and received an award for “Practicing the Highest Standards of Veterinary Medicine and Outstanding Service” to the community.
Above and beyond his experience as a practicing veterinarian, Dr. Edward is also an actor with a starring role in the kid’s television show, “The Dooley and Pals Show” which airs on selected cable networks. Further still, he has appeared in numerous Disney ads and commercials; A Walt Disney World print work spread for Ebony magazine; A national Frito-Lay campaign commercial for “Rollitos”; Improvisation work with the prestigious Groundlings School of Improvisation; Numerous pet-related radio segments; The star of the Amazon Prime reality television series “Pet Doctors of Atlanta”; and starred in the short films “Sounds of the Fight”, “Hills Like White Elephants”, and the 2016 Cannes Film Festival selected film “In the Name of the Nameless”. Most recently, adding to his impressive body of work is being the resident veterinarian for the nationally syndicated TV show, “THE DOCTORS”.


Sarah Grace Hajjar, DVM
Associate Veterinarian

EDUCATION: I grew up in MS and attended Ole Miss for undergrad. I went to vet school at UGA.

HOBBIES/INTERESTS:  I love spending time with family, going to the beach and playing tennis.

IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND PETS: I am married to Dave and have three kids- Lilly Grace, William and Annie. We also have 2 wonderful foster babies. We have four rescue dogs and two cats

FAVORITE PART OF MY JOB: Dermatology, pain management, rescue work, and interacting with clients is my favorite part of my job. Growing up as an only child, my animals were a huge part of my family. I always knew I wanted to work with them. Three classmates and I founded the UGA Shelter Medicine Club. I received a grant to study Sea Turtles in Puerto Rico one summer. I practiced in Athens for  five years at a small animal clinic after graduation. I worked closely with the local rescue group while in Athens as a foster (fostering over 70 animals) as well as serving as foster coordinator. My husband’s job brought us to Kennesaw. My favorite animals to work on would have to be any dog with long hair! I especially love the tiny breeds and the giant breeds.

Mark Ewing
Surgery / Veterinary technician

EDUCATION:I currently have a degree in English. I am currently pursuing a Biology degree in hopes of becoming a Veterinarian.

HOBBIES/INTEREST: Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my wife, Nicole and our daughter, Aviana, and are expecting a new addition to our family, our son Levon, very soon! I like nature and outdoors, camping and fishing whenever possible. I love working on cars and around the house with projects.

IMMEDIATE FAMILY:My wife Nicole and I have a daughter, Aviana, and are expecting our new edition, our son, Levon. We have 4 fur-kids. Two dogs, Dutch and Sasha, and 2 kittens that are so new to our home, they don’t have names yet.

FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB: Surgical assisting is my favorite part of the job. Making sure each pet is monitored and from start to finish is something I take pride in.

Susan Queen
Receptionist Manager

HOBBIES/INTERESTS:  One of my favorite things to do is cheer on my son as he participates in the Special Olympics and various other activities he participates in. I also love being able to assist other families with Special needs children.

IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND PETS: I am married to my high school sweetheart Mark. We have two boys, Tyler and Zachary. We are very excited to become Grandparents for the first time in February 2020. We have a 1 year old Beagle Mix named Mason whom we adopted from Mostly Mutts.

FAVORITE PART OF MY JOB: The best part of my job is greeting our clients and patients each day as they enter our office. Interacting with all the animals is such a joy and all the staff are wonderful to work with. I have learned so much since I started working at KMVS!

Education: Graduated Campbell High School, Smyrna, GA

Kierra Shiver
Hospital Manager

Education: Currently Kennesaw State University attending college to obtain a degree in Early Childhood Education.

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: I enjoy doing DIY projects at home, spending time with my son, Kannon, family and friends, outdoors at much as possible.

IMMEDIATE FAMILY: I have one son, Kannon, who is 6 years old and in the first grade.

FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB: Working  with my wonderful co-workers and helping animals is my favorite part of the job.

Ansley Curry
Veterinary Technician Assistant

EDUCATION: I am excited to begin pursuing a degree in Veterinary Technology starting in August 2019 and will complete classes in December 2020.

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: I love hiking, spending time outdoors and exploring new places. I also love spending time with my friends and family.  When I’m not at work or climbing a mountain, I’m volunteering at my church youth group, managing my brother’s wedding videographer business, or kickboxing at my favorite gym.

IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND PETS: I have loving parents named Dawnee and Allen. A sister named Ashley, and  a brother named Aaron. I also have a Golden Retriever named Riley, a Maltese Poodle Mix named Libby, and a Bunny named Ruby.

FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB: My favorite part of the job is getting to spend all day surrounded by animals. Animals have always been a huge part of my life and are one of the only things I have ever felt passionate about.

Jordan Bailey
Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation 

Education:  I graduated from Allatoona High in 2020.  I am going to attend Chattahoochee Tech in the spring of 2021.

Hobbies/Interests:  I enjoy shopping, getting coffee with friends, and gardening.

Intermediate Family and Pets:  Mom, dad, and 2 older brothers.  I have an Italian Greyhound and 3 cats.

Favorite part of the job:  That every day is never the same. I enjoy getting to help take care of the animals and seeing the kittens from Mostly Mutts.

Carson Chalmers
Kennel Technician 

Education:  I graduated from Allatoona High School in 2020.  I am currently a freshman at Kennesaw State University.

Hobbies/Interests:  I enjoy spending time with my friends, shopping and working.

Intermediate family and pets:  Parents and an older sister.  I have 2 cats, Blue and Lucky.  I also have 2 dogs, Ollie and Presley.  All of my pets are rescue animals.

Favorite part of the job:  I love being able to work with all of the animals.  I love to see the rescue pets that come in from Mostly Mutts find their forever families.

Laura Hand
Kennel Technician 

Education:  I graduated from Harrison High School in 2016.

Hobbies/Interests:  I enjoy spending time with my dog and volunteering.

Intermediate Family and Pets:  Parents John and Susan Hand, brothers John, Luke, and Ben.  I have a dog named Xerxes.

Favorite part of the job:  Getting to meet all of the different dogs that come in to the clinic.

Sara Avore

HOBBIES/INTERESTS:  I enjoy long walks through Target with my Husband while drinking Starbucks

IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND PETS: I have been married to my husband Robert for 8 years. We have two beautiful boys and one on the way. We recently adopted a dog from Mostly Mutts named Lane and he has been a great addition to our family.

FAVORITE PART OF MY JOB: I truly enjoy working with everyone here at KMVS. We are like a big family! Getting to see animals each day is always a joy as well.

Education: I am currently in school to become an Accountant. I also have 8 years of Veterinary experience as well.

Haley Shinliver

HOBBIES/INTERESTS:  I enjoy crafting, music, painting, watching my daughters dance, board games, reading and spending time with family.

IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND PETS: My husband, Jason, and I have two wonderful daughters, Wren and Piper. We have two dogs, a Chihuahua named Zoey, and a Chocolate Labrador Retriever named Hazel.

FAVORITE PART OF MY JOB: My favorite part of the job is developing relationships with our clients and their pets. I try to ensure each client that we are dedicated to providing the best care possible for their fur babies.

Education:  I have worked in the Veterinary field for nearly five years. I am a licensed Master Cosmetologist, however, my passion is working with animals and I hope to continue to do so for years to come!

Lanie Smith

Education:  I am currently enrolled at Kennesaw State University pursuing a psychology degree.

Hobbies/Interests:  I enjoy reading, being in the sun, and time with my family and friends.

Intermediate Family and Pets:  I have two older sisters and an older brother.   I have a golden retriever named Smitty, who is my pride and joy.

Favorite part of the job:  Getting to interact with our clients and doing my best to help in every situation.

Taylor Brice
Receptionist/Technician Float

Education:  I graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College with a bachelor’s degree in Diversified Agriculture and a minor in Animal Sciences.  I have experience in both large and small animal practices.

Hobbies/Interests:  When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love to spend time outside or at the barn.

Intermediate Family and Pets:  I am married to my high school sweetheart, Mitchell.  Together we have 3 dogs, Gander, Greer and Paisley.  A barn cat named Mr. Cat, a pot bellied pig, Peaches, a goat named Willie, and 3 horses named Shiner, Turbo, and Prince. 

Favorite Park of the Job:  My favorite part of the job is the wonderful clients and patients.  I love the fast paced and friendly work environment here at KMVS.  By far, this has been one of my favorite clinics to work for!

Jennifer Travis
Veterinary Technician

EDUCATION: I’m attending Gwinnett Medical College to get my Associates degree as a CCMA (certified Clinical Medical Assistant) and working towards a degree in Nursing.

IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND PETS: I’m engaged and have 3 beautiful kids, a 2 year old and 8 year old daughter, and a 10 year old son. My pets include 4 dogs named, Kora, Kalyse, Kizzy and Kujo. We also have a Bearded Dragon named Kal.

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: I enjoy spending time with my family, going to the movies and swimming.

FAVORITE PART OF MY JOB: I love my coworkers and all the precious fur babies we see every day.

Abbie Murphy
Veterinary Technician

Education:  I have a bachelor’s degree in biology with a concentration in pre-veterinary from Emmanuel College.

Hobbies/Interests:  In my free time I love to be outdoors taking my dogs for walks and cooking out with my friends and family.

Intermediate Family and Pets:  I recently had the privilege of marrying my amazing husband Cooper.  We currently live in Dallas with our two sweet dogs Kona and Largo.

Favorite part of the job:  My favorite part of the job is getting to spend all day with animals and my amazing co-workers, who are always there to give you an extra hand when needed no matter how busy they already are.

Samantha Valentine
Office Liason

Education – Associate’s degree from agriculture transfer program at Lake Land College Bachelors Degree in Animal Science from Middle Tennessee State University I am also currently pursuing veterinary technicians license.

Hobbies/Interests – I enjoy pretty much anything outdoors, especially being at the lake hunting and cooking. I also enjoy making trips to Illinois ad Tennessee to see my family and friends.

Intermediate Family and Pets – I have two brothers and two sisters, as well as two wonderful parents, Brett & Theresa. We have 5 family dogs which include 3 golden retrievers, a red labrador retriever, and a great pyrenees/anatolian shepherd. My boyfriend and I have a black Labrador retriever as well!

Favorite Part of the job- working with the animals and learning something new everyday. My great coworkers are an added bonus
